About Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty
Breast reduction, or “reduction mammoplasty”, is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess breast skin, fat, or glandular tissue to improve the shape and size of breasts.
Breasts are one of the most notorious signs of womanhood and every woman should feel confident and happy about their looks.
Oversized breasts could deliver problems such as back or neck pain, skin irritations around or below the breasts, breathing problems and even difficulty when participating in physical activities.
Before the surgery
The plastic surgeon will evaluate your natural body type and breast shape to determine the best options and deliver an excellent procedure.
Breast reduction requires general anesthesia and usually takes between 2 or 3 hours.
After the surgery
The patient will be able to conduct her regular activities in a few days and go back to work in 2 or 3 weeks.
The patient must follow the surgeon´s recommendations in terms of medications, the use of bra and the type of activities allowed after this procedure.
Although breast reduction is a very safe technique, it is important to understand that any surgery may carry potential medical risks.
Permanent and visible scars appear after the procedure however they will be visible in areas that can be covered by a bra or swimsuit.
Possible complications may include bruising, infection, breast pain, scar rupture and changes in nipple and breast sensation.
These complications are merely temporary and can be solved with simple treatment.
When carried out by a specialized doctor and under careful followed up, high levels of satisfaction are usually obtained, increasing self-esteem.
