About Breast Reconstruction Surgery or Secondary mammoplasty
Breast reconstruction is the mix of techniques aimed at recovering breast shape and improving life quality for those women that have had mastectomy after cancer, problems of breast development like malformation or women that did not achieve the results in a previous reduction or augmentation intervention.
The aim of breast reconstruction is:
- Obtain a better aesthetic result
- Avoid daily annoyance caused by the use of external prosthesis
- Feel better, whole and recover self confidence
Breast reconstruction involves the same risks of any surgical procedure, turning into bruising, pathologic scars, anesthetic problems, although it is not likely to happen.
Alongside, regular smokers should be aware that tobacco may cause healing problems and longer periods of recovery.
Breast reconstruction improves self-image and restores psychological equilibrium that may have occurred when losing a part of the body. This procedure will enable the patient to have an active social and sexual life and to forget the illness that led her to the procedure.
